Given the ongoing evolving role of the UC ANR Strategic Initiatives (SI), the SI leaders agreed that it would again be beneficial to conduct an open search - from across the breadth of expertise of the division - for the next rotation of SI leaders.

A Zoom invitation from Mark Bell
As part of an ongoing effort to share information across the whole UC ANR family, we will trial share (using Zoom) the monthly ANR 2nd Street staff meeting.
Employees outside the UC ANR Davis building will be welcome to join us via Zoom (details below).
ANR staff meetings are held on the third Thursday of each month from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and have three elements
1. "UC ANR in action" – stories from the field and staff,
2. Updates from staff and leadership, and
3. "Learning" - such as health and safety training, etc.

Often UC ANR is called upon to both maintain traditional program areas while at the same time address emerging challenges for the state. These challenges are complex, often with no immediate solution, but unmet they have the potential for severe unintended consequences. UC ANR personnel respond to these growing needs with a finite amount of time and resources. The purpose of Goal 5 of the UC ANR Strategic Plan is to assess both current and future needs, strengths and impacts of our work, then align our efforts such that we are positioned to achieve the 2025 Strategic Vision.

I am pleased to announce that Mark Bell has accepted the Vice Provost–Statewide Programs/Strategic Initiatives position. Mark, who has served as director of the UC Davis International Learning Center since 2007, will join UC ANR on May 1 in the offices at 2801 Second Street in Davis.
In this newly created position, Mark will provide leadership for a unified UC ANR program with strong statewide, campus and local presences. He will oversee the California Institute for Water Resources, Nutrition Policy Institute, the five UC ANR Strategic Initiatives and the nine
